A brief & self indulgent history lesson of yours truely

For just about as long as I can remember coherent thoughts, I've probably been playing video-games in one way or another.

I have absolutely no idea when I picked up my first game (many of them i shared from my dad), but I can safely say it all started on the good old Playstation 2.

Blasting away Nazis in Call Of Duty 3 and collecting all the studs in Lego Star Wars & Indiana Jones are probably my fondest memories of this special time.

My dad had bought a couple of strategy & FPS games when he was still somewhat tech savvy, and to his slight dismay, I began frequenting his PC

Rome: Total War, Battlefield 2, Blitzkrieg, Codename Panzers, and Empire At War come to mind during this time. Not to mention horrifying amounts of Roblox, something I had found when clicking on the adverts next to Youtube videos (and yes, I remember a time when Roblox used comic sans as the main font).

Due to me having the mind of a 6-8 year old, I never really finished any of the games I played due to the difficulty increases and fustrations with the PS2 controller. Stratagy games were the worst offender. One example being me thinking the "demolish" building button in Rome: Total War was useful only for the fact it made a cool noise.

I remember one of the first games I played on Steam being Toy Soldiers, a game I still love due to my oh-so affectionate view toward the little plastic buggers.

I found Garry's Mod around 2011 and subsequently binged watched anything I could of it, Zombie Invasions and Toybox Testing alike. Unfortunetly when I finally got the chance to buy it in November 2012, the version that I'd been watching for months had since been lost and revamped to Version 13. Though I thankfully grew a liking to it quickly enough.

I was apart of several server communities in this early time. X52 Gaming, Freebuild & Kill, Tulips, MetaConstruct, Bills Sandbox, FGC, and a boatload of unlistable split-off communities.

A fond memory I have of the day I bought the game involved me playing on a gm_construct modless multiplayer server (I had most likely never played any real game online at this point with the exception of Roblox, so I was in utter awe), and asking the 25-30ish people there in broken 9 year old english, something along the lines of

"how do i get in jep?"

Another wonderful memory involved me playing on a Zombie Survival server, and letting my parents hear really loud and enthusiastic talk of dicks, cocks, and vaginas live on my dad's speakers and subwoofer.

Needless to say, They didn't really like me playing that game anymore.

Anyway, This sandbox adventure eventually made me find Minecraft as well, and was subsequently caught hook, line, and sinker. Watching various parodies and songs to make me less scared of the genuinely horrifying cave noises, and a potential visit from Herobrine.

From here, it was a bit of a blur. I can pretty safely assume I pretty much played the games I had on Steam and CD over and over again, not really being that close to PC gaming as I am today (as back then, I had friends I wanted to physically play with, woe to current me).

One thing I can remember though, Is watching crap-tons of YouTube videos about games. Some of the greats being NerdCubed, VenturianTale, and of-course, The Yogscast.

I still do a lot of replaying to this day, seeing what made these games click in my tiny forming mind. I can still safely say today that I love pretty much all of the the games I grew up in all those years of playing.

Aside from this, Nowadays I game much more with friends and thus play more CO-OP or Multiplayer based games. Though that is not to say I still don't play Singleplayer games from time to time.
